save a prayer...

my hometown's about to have the hell kicked out of it by hurricane rita. my dad called me this morning and said that, due to the geography and climate of the area, they're expecting the hurricane to stall out right on top of them. possibly 100mph wind, tornadoes, and 2 feet of rain. trust me when i say this isn't an area that can handle 2 feet of water in a short amount of time. stores are sold out of water and ice, gas lines are long, and there's gridlock in the streets. you'd think my hometown was huntsville, beaumont, orange...within 50-60 miles of houston or the coastal area.

my hometown is 225 miles north of houston.

if you haven't already, say a prayer for the people already affected and the people who will be affected by the hurricanes. while it appears that we'll be better prepared now than we were a few weeks ago, this is still gonna be a big, big mess. right next to the big, big, big mess currently being cleaned up.

if you haven't already, find a charity to get involved with, not just to donate $20 to and forget about it.

if you haven't already, make plans to attend one of the saints marching in shows in the next few days and weeks. some or all of the proceeds from each of these shows will go towards hurricane relief. if that isn't reason enough, a lot of these bands and artists are positively badass (and my friends).

(ps-what happened to "it won't be water, but fire next time?")

I'm sorry, Newton. I hope everyone gets out all right and the town is still standing next time you go home. The whole thing is scary.
